A Love Story – The Pre-quel

Once upon a time, there was this handsome missionary kid who grew up in the Phillippines. He came back to the states for college and chose his parents’ alma mater, Cincinnati Bible Seminary. Where other missionary and preacher kids went.

One day, he met a nice girl with a beautiful roommate. He befriended this nice girl. So he could get to know her beautiful roommate. The beautiful roommate was dating someone else at the time and wouldn’t give this incorrigible missionary kid the time of day.

This missionary kid was persistent. He wouldn’t let up. And he got under her skin.  Enough that she told her mom about him. Who, being a preacher’s wife, knew of the missionary kid’s family. In fact, it turns out, his family once visited her family and the two played together when they were toddlers.

So the mother of the beautiful roommate, helped this missionary kid out by hinting to her lovely daughter that this boy was much better than the would-be pig farmer she was dating. After all, she grew up a preacher’s kid, what did she know about being a pig farmer’s wife?

So somehow, he convinced her to date him. And they had fun. And then they fell in love.

And then one day, the beautiful roommate said “yes” to the incorrigible missionary kid and they got married.

Forty-two years ago.

May 31, 1969

And they’ve been inseparable ever since.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!!!!

I love you.
