For two very long years, Marcus has worked in a hostile environment.
For two very long years, Marcus has been bullied, exploited, abused, manipulated, maligned, lied to, cheated, berated, belittled, overworked and finally discarded for refusing to feed the ego of the powers that be.
For two very long years, and in spite of such gross mistreatment, Marcus gave his all. He was loyal to a fault. He did everything in his power to please, to perform to constantly changing expectations – exasperating and exhausting – to no avail.
For two very long years, Marcus has been a captive of his own employer.
This period of captivity ended today.
Today, after two very long years, Marcus walked into that place, and while surrounded by the Heavenly Host, very calmly and confidently tendered his resignation.
Today, after two very long years, Marcus is FREE. Our family is FREE.
Today, Marcus is unemployed for the first time in his life, but we are celebrating, because he is FREE.
Today, Marcus is FREE to walk boldly into the future.
We are thankful to God for providing for our family through his job for so long.
We are thankful to God that we had insurance for my pregnancy and gallbladder surgery. If it weren’t for those things, Marcus would have left that place long ago.
We are thankful to God for giving us clarity about the situation in the last 72 hours and for practically shouting that now is the time to move on.
We are thankful that God walked before him into that place today, preparing the way.
We are thankful to God for the job I know he has prepared for Marcus and pray that He shows us which doors He is opening quickly.
We are thankful to God for surrounding us with family and friends who have been, and continue to be, supportive through encouragement and prayer.
We are thankful to God for what He has done, what He is doing, and what He has planned for our family.
We know the road ahead may not be easy. I mean really, neither one of us has a job now! But God never promised it would be easy. We are trusting Him to provide. We are trusting Him to lead the way. We are walking this road together. We are walking this road with God.
And now, I think we’re gonna dance! Care to join us?
The Year of the LORD’s Favor
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners, [a]
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.
